Retention offers on Amex EDP?

Has anyone gotten one, or tried and failed?

In either case, what was your spending like?

From Flyertalk Amex Retention Offer thread, one for EDP (and Oct 15):

2.5K points not to cancel, and 5k points for 1K spend within three months, Total 7.5K points, or in the alternate, a $75 statement credit or gift card.

Not amazing...

Well, it's half the original opening offer (I think).  Otherwise, could downgrade.

Signature needs updating

Something is better than nothing as it comes close to covering the AF for a year?  Also if you can do the 30 swipes not a bad offer to keep it a EDP vs. ED or cancelling?

Right, I didn't say it was bad, just not amazing (which I will define as something that would make me consider phoning about cancelling in case I get the offer!)

Re: Retention offers on Amex EDP?

7500 MRs would be nice.

This is the first month I won't hit 30 transactions. I spend about $1000-$1500 per month on it, but without Costco my Amex spending will fall.

Re: Retention offers on Amex EDP?

Further research shows some people get up to a 15k MR retention bonus. One person specified $81k in spending, so rententions might max out on EDP at 15k.

Careful builder : you can pay your cable or cell phone in multiple transactions. Like a dollar each. Helps hit the 30x if you're falling short

Re: Retention offers on Amex EDP?

If I want to be sure I hit 30, I can do Amazon gift card balance reloads.

I think I prefer not caring and avoiding the nuisance in the first place, though, so I'd PC to the no-AF version and SD it.

Re: Retention offers on Amex EDP?

@careful FYI I think the Amazon GC top up is $5 minimum BUT you can send yourself an e-gift card for a lower amount. Just make sure you send it to the same email as your Amazon account and it's added automatically
