I have an amex spg card which has a very low 2k credit line. The line is maxed out, but I am not carrying a balance and the payment due date is not for a few more weeks. Is there any risk in me leaving the card maxed out assuming I make the required payments on time and do not carry a balance? My overall util is less than 4% and I have a PRG with no charges on it and a BCP with 17.1k and no charges on it. It seems to me that amex shouldn't be overly concerned, but I didn't know if some sort of flag could be raised where it makes sense for me to pay a few hundred now to get the available credit down from the limit vs waiting a week or two.

I wouldn't let it report as maxed out. I did with my discover card and got dinged 50 + points with my TU score

How long have you been with Amex and is your overall utlization that you mentioned include all other accounts you have? It doesnt seem you have anything to worry about but if I were you and had the funds to pay it, I would go ahead and pay it.
wow 50 points for one maxed out card.

Yeah my File was thin and I forgot my statement date was close when I bought something so even though I was going to pay it off as soon as the purchase posted it also posted on the Statement as the balance

I did report Discover several times completely maxed out when my CL was 2,5K and did not get a single point drop. My overall util was still the same less than 5% and when I paid down to 0 on that Discover nothing changed score wise. So it is YMMV and depends on the whole credit profile. Been with Amex for 8 months, although this card I got end of June. I've already made a few payments on the card. I will be paying the balance down before the next statement cuts, so I will not be letting it report a maxed balance to CRA. My overall util includes a bunch of credit cards, a few have zero balances and the others have a couple hundred here or a couple hundred there but nothing major. Its just hard not to be near the maxed out level with a low credit line especially when I am trying to meet a 5k initial spend. I'll pay a few hundred just to get it away from the max limit and then make a larger payment next week as I planned.

I had 4 cards at the Time. Amazon Store Card with a $700 CL, Amazon Visa with a $500 limit, Amex BCE with a $1,000 limit and it posted $290 and Discover it with a $1,000 limit and posted a $988 Balance. BCE I PIF after statement cut since I expected to Pay more then 50% of the discover balance before Statement cuted but The purchase took like 4-5 days to post versus the usual 2-3
