Hey all, I could really use some input.
Credit portfolio below - I've decided it's time to get myself a hotel card to use for some trips on the horizon. Questions:
1) What are the current sign up bonuses for each card?
2) For those of you that have each, what do you like? What don't you like?
3) Is anyone familiar with Chase internal limits for # of credit cards or total credit limit? I have a CSP and SW card through them already
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I think 70K marriott is the best offer right now, but I didn't read through this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credit-card-programs/1271936-again-70k-points-1-night-no-fee-1st-yr-m...
I believe the best public offer for SPG is 25K. I think there might be some targeted 30K offers around.
I have the SPG card but I don't have a marriott card so I can't compare.
As far as Chase's total CL across all cards, I expect that is going to be highly individualized.
A couple members of this forum have 6-7 cards with Chase. Your internal limit will depend on your credit history. Anecdotally, it may be up to 50% of income assuming you have excellent credit. If denied a 3rd card, you may be able to transfer some of your current limits to open it through recon.
I don't have either card, but I would go for the SPG, assuming no brand loyalty. 20,000 points = 25,000 airline miles and lower annual fee, but it has foreign transaction fees
I have the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier and have been very happy with it. 70k sign up bonus, AF waived first year, 1 free night in a category 1-5 each year (1-4 for the first year). It's one of Chase's "metal" cards like the CSP but the aesthetics of the cards have never really mattered to me. I believe the sign up bonus and annual free night justify the AF, plus you receive automatic silver elite status and pretty decent earning potential on travel and dining out.
I can't speak to the SPG but I haven't heard of many people that are disappointed with it either.
The best card for you really depends. Do you stay at marriott often? If not then it may not be the right card for you. If you frequently stay at marriotts then it may be worth it. If you stay at SPG properties then the spg card is the way to go. If you don't stay at either property then what I would point out is that the marriott points that you earn will only work at marriott. The SPG points you earn can be transferred to a number of different airlines for flight redemptions.
I got teased every week by the Marriott offer and finally took it. It is in essence a free card as you can trade the annual fee for a free hotel night, carryover silver status and 70K points. I found the availability of free nights relatively good and Marriott has a good cross-section of properties. I lost nearly 200K Hilton points from inactivity on their program, having the card ensures I won't lose any points with Marriott.
Because my wife's retirement manager has a bunch of Marriott properties under management we stay at them a couple of times a year for about 1/3 of rack rate.
Hum I might have to add the marriot card myself.
