Re: Scores needed?

I can speak from experience on the Best Buy MC and the Capital One rewards cards.  I was able to obtain a 300 CL on the BB and 500 on the CO Rewards card with a credit score of 580.  My brothers fiance also just got a Capital One rewards card and it was her first credit card ever and I believe she was in the 550 range

Starting Score: EQ 619
Current Score: EQ 735, TU 732, EX 745(Lender Pulled)
Goal Score: EQ 700

the easiest with highest limit to obtain would be the nfcu cash reward. wait 6 mos with your nrewards if you want then apply. i believe 2 cards with nfcu is the limit so you would have to close your nrewards card if you wanted the flagship. chase freedom has been a gimme lately. when i applied i had 650 score tu and they told me they needed to see at least one year history with multiple accounts in good standing. i cant speak for the others though

NFCU plat 5k | NFCU cashrewards 3k |BOFA 123 3k |
Chase Freedom 1.5k | Amazon 1600 | Walmart 1150

Re: Scores needed?

I agree that.cash rewards should be your next target as they will be more likely to give a decent starting limit. That should happen in 6 months. After that I would garden for another 6 months before trying to pick up chase freedom. Also; you could get the regular wal mart card at the same time as nfcu cash card; and it may be upgraded later on; or you could just go straight for it at the same time as cash rewards. Cap one card is not really going to be a good card to keep long term because they give crappy limits and have poor customer service. Just my opinion.

Re: Scores needed?

I don't mind skipping their cash card but now that they have HSBC cards, I can't avoid them due to the best buy card. I like the extra rewards with my rz account.

Re: Scores needed?

Jordan - I was approved for the NFCU cash rewards card with a 550's eq score and gross income around 40k.  I recently received my Flagship with a score of 685, you need to build up to this card (most sites show a 720+ needed for signature).  What exactly is holding your credit down? Utilization?

Re: Scores needed?

Collections and late payments are holding me down. I just got another collection removed today, (I started with more than 10 in March), once it goes from my reports I'll be left with 2 on EQ (FP CO/Collection and a returned check), 3 on TU (2 medical & FP) and 2 on EX (returned check & FP). 1 late payment to Nelnet (they won't budge) and rest on Walmart card from last year (They only agreed to remove 1). No reporting open revolving credit until NFCU and Cap1 report.

Re: Scores needed?

Jordan, good work on rebuilding. You'll see a nice increase once those revolving accounts start to report! Keep up the good work, and remember that petience is key. Nothing heals your score better than on time payments for the next 7 yrs
