I would think the answer is yes, a positive installment account is only going to help you get a better rate on one later.

Initially, it hurt my scores because the loan balance was high relative to amount paid. But my file was very thin at the time with only two credit cards. The scores have since crept back up and are a bit higher then when I took out the loan.
