Hi,
As asked in the title, is this possible? I have debit card with money in it but i have heard that car rentals dont take that and I need a card. Will a secured card with 650 availablility work with enterprise or someone similar? I need to visit a city in another state and wanted to know if this was possible.
Thanks
Call the car rental place that you'd like to use and ask them.
Some of them DO take debit cards...
It should be fine. I wouldn't mention it being a secured card, there's no way for them to know it is. Generally enterprise authorizes $300 on a card up front.
As long as it's a true secured card and not a prepaid card you will be fine. Most companies will only hold the estimated total if you are using a credit card. Specifically, I've rented through Hertz and Budget using cards with less availability than that.
Further, I've used a debit card with Budget, but they will hold $500 or the rental rate, whichever is greater. This can vary by location...
Thanks for the reply guys. The reason I asked was I was looking through online deals and they have clearly mentioned that it has to be a credit card. I dont have an option to talk to anyone at the enterprise. It said, book now, and show ur credit card and details at pick up. If they placed a hold of greater than 650, I would be in trouble. I did not want any surprises as such when I did land. I dont know, I guess I will wait and see and if it works I will update this post for others.
Are you over 25? That is the only other snag I could see....Some agencies won't rent under 25 at all and others have large surchages for drivers under 25.
I am over 25. I also have my own comp + collision insurance. Fingers crossed!
Actually Enterprise in my local area will rent with a debit card. They just require a proof of residence (such as a utility bill) and two references. I'm not sure what the hold amount is. I know that they only held $300.00 on my CC for a week long rental that was to be about $250.00 with no extra fees.
I did rent with a secured CC from different providers. As long as your limit is sufficient, all is good.
