Re: Secured Credit Cards that Graduate

BOFA - reliably graduates

Wells: Oujia board and chicken sacrifice to graduate

NFCU: if you can get access most people don't need their secured product at all; I wasn't aware it graduated either but I've sort of tuned out a lot of the NFCU information Smiley Happy.

Not sure on USBank, not aware of anyone else that does it.

Generally speaking I personally rate secured card graduation pretty far down the list of desirables; however, given that BOFA is hands down the best secured card it's worth taking the shot on anyway especially as one can get the AF removed later and they have a reasonable rewards lineup unlike some others and it becomes a no-cost tradeline farm absolute worst case.

From what I understand US Bank's secured card will graduate at 12 months but it isn't an automatic process.  You need to call in to request it.

Re: Secured Credit Cards that Graduate

Thanks for the info. I think I will just work with the cards that I have by reducing the utilization and continuing to clean up my credit. Then I will try to apply for other cards that will have a higher limit and will grow with me. My concern is that I get "stuck" with cards that won't grow with me. I currently have a secured Amex with USAA, 2 cards with Cap 1, (1 secured), JCP, and Walmart.

The vast majority of lenders cards won't grow with you technically (only a select few are in the top tier rewards cards which is the typical end-game from a pure credit card perspective).  I wouldn't worry about more cards, 5 is way more than enough for positive history purposes.
