Seriously Capital One?!?!?

I hope this experience does not set the tone for my relationship with Capital One. I just received my Student Rewards Visa today and called the number on the card to get it activated. I reached an outsourced call center, and the rep was enrolling me in some payment protection program and credit monitoring service. I told him REPEATEDLY that I did not need these products and not to enroll me, and he kept telling me that when I get the welcome packet, I can call and cancel the service. I flat out said DO NOT ENROLL ME IN ANY PRODUCTS OR SERVICES and he went and transferred me to an account specialist. I let her know the situation and she transferred me to a product specialist (?). The girl told me to call back in a week, because my card was just activated and the services were not showing up on my profile.

SERIOUSLY???? I took down only the last girl's name... I hope I don't have any issues. Anyone else have this problem? I was about to flip my lid!

Re: Seriously Capital One?!?!?

I went through the same thing when I activated my cap one secured card a couple of months ago. I also got one of those nice overseas reps and he started to read his script. I just let him finish talking and told him I wasnt interested. Of course he kept insisting, but I told him if Im interested later on, I will just add it later. He kept trying but I kept saying I didnt want it. He eventually gave up and that was that. These guys are probably trained to get at least three "No's" from you before they can give up or something of the like.

I get to do the same thing over again once I get my cap one no hassle rewards card in a few days. It going to be quite fun...:smileyindifferent:

Speaking as a former top 3 CCC CSR, that is EXACTLY the training they receive.  Your calls are monitored, you get paid a bonus for every sale you make, and if your coach/manager hears you give up before three "no's", you are reprimanded.

Re: Seriously Capital One?!?!?

jausanka - I heard of some cell phone companies using this sale tatic before, so that came to mind when the OP started this thread.

Anyways, I got my new rewards card in the mail today and just got off the phone with Cap One. I tried to call the number on the back of the card instead, hoping to somehow work around me having to talk to a rep and avoid them trying to sell me that account protection service. Didnt work. Had to talk to a rep, and after turning her down twice, she just went ahead and activated my card and I was on my way.

Re: Seriously Capital One?!?!?

what i hate about these "selling" scripts is that they read the entire thing to you every single time!  i'm like, hello, i heard you!  i still don't want it!  :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Seriously Capital One?!?!?

The same thing just happened to me with my Best Buy RZMC. It took four "no's" but eventually the guy gave up...
