Shifting Citi credit lines

Has anyone done this?   I called today to close my AA card (too many AFs and the card isn't really used).   I got a retention offer (5 purchases of any amount in 3 months and I get the $95 credit, a "one time" offer), but the first rep said that Citi doesn't do credit line transfers.  The retention specialist said that they now do partial ones.

So $10K of the $15K can be transferred, but the card gets closed, and the remaining CL is there "in case you want to open it again"  She also said it was new, but I'm not sure!   Have others had experience with this with Citi?

Re: Shifting Citi credit lines

Supervisors can override this credit transfer rule. You have to explicitly ask for a supervisor.

Re: Shifting Citi credit lines

Exact thing happened to me this afternoon when I called to close one of my Citi cards because of the fee.

I was offered to spend $1k for next 3 months for fee credit, but I declined. Then, the csr initiated a partial transfer (60% of my CL) to an existing after I requested the card be closed. I was assured there was no HP.

Re: Shifting Citi credit lines

Wonder why the difference in retention offers, I would also have turned down a $1K spend, but any five purchases for $95 seems OK (and I can/will still cancel before the AF is due in Nov).  Was you card a higher AF?

Yeah, yours is much better!  Compared to your 5 cups of coffee for the fee waiver, I've got spend $1K?  LOL

So just want to check: was there in fact no HP?   I see Flyer Talk boards saying that they were told there would be a HP for any CL transfer.  This still seems strange to me, unless it is done merely to discourage, transferring CL has no impact on a lender's exposure.

I specifically asked and was told there was no pull on my CRs.

Now, this having been a Saturday, I could have gotten an uninformed CSR.  Most of the conversation was heavily scripted; so, while I was assured there was no HP, I wouldn't bet money on it.

I haven't received an alert yet, but we'll see in the next several days.  If you want to wait, I can confirm whether or not I've received an alert.

@bs6054

Just checked my Experian backdoor; and, as of today, there has been no HP or SP reported from Citi.

Re: Shifting Citi credit lines

Thanks, once I do my five purchases and get the $95 credit, I will try to get them to promise no HP as well!
