I just got an offer to upgrade my Gold to a Platinum Delta SkyMiles card.
We do travel at least once a year to somewhere, and we'd get some things:
titanofold, as a valued Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card Card Member, you've been selected for this special offer that can boost your SkyMiles® balance. Earn 15,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in purchases on the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership.1 The annual membership fee for a Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card is $195.
And of course the companion certificate.
In regards to inquiries, will it be hard or soft?

If you want the Platinum I would just apply they have offers for 35,000 mile and 5,000 MQMs after spending $1,000 on the card....since you are already a member with Amex the application would be a soft pull if you are declined and a hard pull if approved, so you got nothin to lose here....If you get the platinum you could move credit from the gold (if it is over 13 months old) to the platinum and close the gold.....good luck with whatever you choose to do, but go to Amex website and see the offer for the platinum, much better than the upgrade!
edit got miles amount wrong....
Huh.
Well, I just read the offer terms, and I'd only be excluded if I have or had that specific product. Am I understanding this right?
There seems to be a trade off, though. The offer I received is to upgrade my account. I'd get to keep the history without an inquiry. Or, open a new account and get an additional 20,000 miles with an inquiry.
Agonizing decision.

Yes it is considered a different product.....and yes you would lose history (after 10 years) of the gold if you were to cancel it after getting approved for the platinum....plus the offer includes a $100 credit for a purchase from delta (gift cards count for that credit) really up to you of course.....good luck!!
Why settle for 35k on a new Delta Platinum? 70k+$100 offers are common.
you should send OP the link.....

Happy to send you a referral link if you want.
It really would just cost you an inquiry and the impact of a new account. You can close your old Gold account and that stays on your CR for 10 years. I plan to close my Gold next year before my annual fee is due so I can reallocate some of my credit limit to my Platinum.
aussiesareforever,
Can you please share the referral link? you can send me a PM in case its not permitted here.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, please do.

Also, I'm at 718 with Experian. What's the likely hood of being approved?
(Experian is also the one that still has the collection on it from several years ago.)
