Re: Should I apply for a credit card to do a BT?

thanks guys. i did the chase prequalifier and i saw the below. I didnt see the slate. should i still apply?

Chase Freedom® Card
EARN $100 BONUS
after $500 spent on purchases in the first 3 months from your account opening*
5% Cash Back on up to $1,500 spent in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter*
No Annual Fee

What im afraid of: i dont want to waste a hard hit on the slate if i wont get approved today... reason being is that i just got the increases today...my credit util as of yesterday was 95% (before i paid off CAP1 and the CLIs on both cards)

Then I'd wait. At least sleep on it. You may have a clearer head tomorrow and can rationalize apping or not. Sounds like you're still pretty undecided.

you could take this offer and then apply directly after for slate so if you get approved for at least freedom great, if you get both, fantastic because you can move CL.

otherwise wait 30 days for the approval of freedom and the CLI's and payments to update and then go back and apply for slate too.

but your util. is killing you but what is helping probably as strange as it sounds is that you only have 2 accounts! at least helping you in the maxed out way because in my thinking sometimes banks overlook for high util when someone only has 1 or 2 cards because they just might give you the benefit of the doubt that you pay much or all of your balance each month and it just shows so high because it reports before you payment.... someone that has 5-6 cards and they are all really high, I feel like does not get that benefit of the doubt.

plus chase pre-qual I find to be gold!

otherwise try this Chase: 888-245-0625 (Credit Analyst - Recons)

you can explain you would like to BT xx dollars and you just made payments of xx not showing and just received CLI of xx not showing but your rate is xx and you are hoping to move the entire amount over and then make payments of xx a month towards paying the debt off and build a lasting relationship with chase at the same time!

Congratulations! You ended up exactly like I did--not enough credit to transfer the whole thing. If nothing else, at least you're the proud owner of a new Slate card. Smiley Happy

Re: Should I apply for a credit card to do a BT?

Awesome! Good thing you went with your gut and applied. I'm sure they will tell you that they didn't give you a higher limit because of your high utilization but you can use that to your advantage when trying to recon for a higher limit. Tell them that's why you wanted their product so you could transfer that balance over to a better card. Good luck
