Should I close Cap One?

I am thinking off closing my Cap One secured card. They won't increase my limit on the secured card I have with them or the Cash rewards card($750). I know it will hurt my available credit, but the limit isn't that high ($350) and I don't want to pay an annual fee. I don't use the card anymore because I know have a NFCU unsecured card and a Barclays card that I use more than either Cap One. I also have a Walmart, Gap, and Jareds, so I know I have enough cards but I want to see what others would do. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Re: Should I close Cap One?

I closed my Cap1 secured card last week.

I also have a Cap1 CR card which is 9 months old and I emailed the E.O. and got the limit increased from $750 to $2000.

Walmart Discover ($5000) - Amazon ($5500) - Cap1 Cash Rewards ($2000) - Meijer ($5000) - Discover More ($1800) - Car Care One ($2100) - Amex Delta Skymiles ($2000) - Citi Thank You Preferred ($2000) - Chase Freedom ($500) - Sam's Club, GE ($1237?)

Re: Should I close Cap One?

Do you think I could get the email to the EO office so I could try the same? Thanks!

Re: Should I close Cap One?

IMHO, a secured card that won't graduate is useless once you have unsecured credit.  But it's worth trying to get it graduated to an unsecured card.  The EO has been pretty receptive lately, I'd agree it's worth a try.

Good luck!

Re: Should I close Cap One?

Definitely time to close it, now that you have unsecured cards.   They are meant to be termporary (1 to 2 years or so)

Re: Should I close Cap One?

I would close the card it has served it purpose.  As far as I know the only was you can increase your credit limit with secure card is to increase the amount of the deposit or see if they will unsecure the card.
