Do you know what your AAoA is?

With no annual fee - there really is no reason to close it, especially being that it is your oldest account, it will bring your AAoA down. All open credit also helps your Util ratio percentage.

Personally, if this were me, I would leave it open. IMHO.

That is not true. Closing an account will not affect your AAoA as most closed accounts remain on your CR for approx. 10 years. And by the time it falls off your CR, you will have had other TLs to help with the AAoA.

Re: Should I close my first Credit Card?

I think us forum types often have a tendency to be sentimental to our credit cards. Lol.  Just look at it as a business decision, the same way the bank looks at it when deciding whether or not to extend credit.  Consider if this card meets any needs, other than AAOA.  Even if it werent still included in AAOA, it wouldnt go very far since you have opened 6 cards in the last year and half. It has to be paid by mail, which leaves a lot of room for error. Not to mention it only reports to two of the CRA's.  Im not sure It would be worth the worry about whether or not they received your payment on time.

Re: Should I close my first Credit Card?

Thanks for the help everyone. I just turned in the card today, and they will close the account by the end of the week.
