Thanks everyone! The thing about paying down until is that it's incredibly slow. I can only pay a couple hundred over minimum a month. Which is why I was considering the bal transfer. $100k is a nice bit (come up a smidge since my bk started when I was making $23k lol) but with 2x mortgages and utilities plus a car pmt and minimum CC payments of almost $900/month I have barely any left. Maybe Chase Slate would better... OTOH maybe I will wait a few
months and at least get my until down a teeny bit. As for my credit report, it curiously doesn't say "over limit" but it does show my limit and the balance, and the balance is higher.
*util not until... damn you autocorrect
You can always try for it, but I think you'll end up having to ask for recon due to Amex being over the limit and 80% utilization. For what you're paying in finance charges I think you should do the following:
1) Ask 22% lender for APR reduction.
2) Ask lenders for sp-CLI.
3) Apply for Slate.
Freedom has a nice offer, but you'll pay BT fee. It's waived for an intro period on Slate and if you need to recon it's an easy discussion about tackling your debt. For what you pay in monthly finance charges, yes it's worth 1 hard pull.
I agree with 335 and was about to disagree with others.
I fortunately do not have anywhere as much debt as you do nor bills (not being mean just the facts, its great you take care of your mom too !), but I had a super high utilization and Slate was the first card I apped for. I had to get comfortable with it because I had not tried to get credit in some time. I was instantly approved for $3k and apped right after for Freedom and got $7k. Called recon and told them I wanted to BT and they asked how much I wanted, Shoot high and let them counter. For the amount of potential savings going towards the actual debt and not interest it is well worth the HP. Also, if approved for Freedom as well you can move some of that CL over to the Slate to give you additional room.
Hope this helps!
