Can anytone tell me how long it takes for Skymiles to post if you have a Delta AmEx? I want to use the miles from purchasing two tickets on my new Delta Gold to get the third one really cheap. The trip is not until May, so I have some time before I would need to book the thid one. I am expecting the signup bonus (30,000 miles), I already have some (10,000), and the miles from purchasing two tickets with the card (almost 5,000).
I also understand that you can choose to pay with points and miles. Can anyone tell me how that works? I kow that 10,000 miles equals $100 off a ticket over $1,000 to Europ (where I am going), but I have something like 10,114 already. Does paying with miles work only in certain increments? Thanks in advace for your help! I was slightly overwhelmed by the info on Delta's site.

I am going to book after my 60 day CLI (hopefully) goes through. That should put my new limit at $3,000.
The tickets ar $1,250 each, so I should be able to book two with no problems, then wait for the miles to post and get the 40,000 mile ($400 discount) on the third one. This is going to work out great!
Now if only Marriott would open up some lower-tier properties around Rome, I would earn points on the MSP card I share with my spuse, instead of staying at a cheaper hotel and earning no rewards.....
