Edit: Should I go for Walmart, too? My AAoA is pretty toast now.
No problem! And don't forget, after 4 statements, ask for a CLI!
I think you could actually go for Walmart, too! I mean if you got an instant from Amazon, I'm sure you'd get an instant from Walmart with around the same limit, though more likely smaller. Plus that free TU score is a win in my book!
But after that, I would stop for a longgg while! Garden for around a year and then you can aim for your reach cards! GL!

Alright, I can do this! Discover or Store?

When you apply, it'll first see if it can qualify you for Discover (typically $800 CL or greater). If not, it'll approve you for store! So it's one application! Either one gives you the free TU!
And...just the regular store card. $600 limit. Do I have to wait for the physical card to get before I can pull my TU?

I believe so, because you're going to need your actual card for online access. It's possible though that while applying it did prompt you to sign up your online access. If you have a Walmart nearby, you can see if they can look up the account for you and that may give you the full account number.
Congrats again!!!
Thanks again! Oof. No Amex for awhile though.
Edit: Also, sorry: I totally hijacked your thread. Congrats to your brother again!

Yeah, but look on the bright side!
Waiting a year for the AMEX will mean a better AAoA in the long run. Also, you'll be able to squeeze in 2-3 CLI (either auto or initiated by you, all soft pulls) on the Walmart and Amazon cards, as well as maybe trying for a CLI on Discover during that time frame (could be a SP, could be a HP, but if it's a HP shouldn't hurt you too much). Having higher limits and a solid AAoA will result in a high limit and higher chance of instant approval with AMEX!
Does it stink to wait? Definitely. But it's the key to getting great cards!
