We've paid down my husbands Sears card from about 1800 to $930. They just freakin reduced his limit to $1050.

So, yeah, 88% utilization..  I'm so furious at them I could scream.

His credit score is going to nosedive as soon it reports on the 5th, oh yeah, and mine too since I'm an authorized user on the account.

I will never ever do business with them ever. You should read what they did to me (Re: Isn't this illegal). Basically after PIF on an account that was never late, but was in debt consolidation pgm (which they agreed to the terms), they immediately change the status to a paid collection, basically addiing a DOFD as of the date I PIF, thus setting me up for 7+ more years of this collection to be reported unto my CRs. I called every phone number I could find, but everyone (including the excutive office) gave me a different story on why they did it etc, etc, which completely violate the term of the debt mgmt program to not report as late or delinquent, the account, as long as I satisfy my part of the agreement by paying each month ontime. BTW I PIF 2.5 years ahead of schedule

I basically had to file a claim with the BBB, and within a week they corrected the reporting. They claim in a response letter to the BBB that they can't find where my CR was showing "paid as collection", a day immediately after they change the reporting to "paid as agreed", this was their skewed response. I literally cringe whenever I see their store in the mall, I frequently go to. I still mad at them even though my problem has been taken care of. i feel your pain.

Good luck with these folks, basically they are chasing you CL, which will show the card as being nearly maxed out, which is not good.

Re: So angry at SEARS and CITI

They reduced me from $3000 to $2600 so i had like 100% util on that card for so long. I paid it off and now it rarely carries a balance. 2 months ago they gave me a credit limit increase from $2600 to $2800 with a hard pull on EQ...what a joke.

Sorry to see so many others screwed over by them. I looked them up on creditkarma and pretty much all their reviews are 1 star negatvies.

Balance was kind of an on again, off again thing. Most of the time it hovered around the $1000 mark, getting occasionally paid in full around tax time or when I got a tuition reimbursement. It did go up to $1800 for two months, but then two statements ago it was down to $1400 and then as of this latest statement ion the 5th t was down to $930. I half expected some balance chasing when it went from $1800 to $1400 since that $1800 balance had been stagnant a couple months, but, no balance chasing down to $1500 when the balance reported $1400 last month. The only difference was this last month we didn't use it for a single purchase. Not even one purchase on the last statement.

I can understand why they might do that, but that really sucks. Pay it off and move on.

JenniferinFL,

I'm sorry to hear you got balance chased.  That just sucks.  I didn't have a good experience with Sears when I had their store card a couple of years ago.  They gave me a ridiculous CL of $250.  I eventually just closed the account as it was useless.

I know it doesn't help your situation, but it might bring you some satisfaction to know that all the business news say that Sears is circling the financial drain and is likely to go bust in the very near future.

Yeah, there's definitely a reason they're circling the drain.. lol

I'm just glad that I check accounts regularly online. If I was a regular joe who just got my statement in the mail and paid the bill, we would've been screwed over without warning. My parents never check their accounts online, they just get the statement. They have been screwed over so many times by these kinds of tactics.

Re: So angry at SEARS and CITI

I have 2 citi accounts that I just got a year ago, Both for the 0% APR for 21 months and for 18 months because I was going to Italy in Dec and knew I would need the time to pay it off.   Anyway cut to Jan they cut my citi diamond preferred to 3270 when I owed 3200. I called them said that I was upset, I got this card because of the no interest which I still have 13 months of and that I always charge a lot this time of year on all my cards because of Christmas. But my busy time of work is Feb-June (which is true) and I will pay it all off very soon. They sent me an e-mail that they RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CREDIT LIMIT next day. Then two weeks later same thing! This time on the Dividend World card. Called them again told them I just went through this and next day e-mail again RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CREDIT LIMIT! So I do suggest calling them, they were very nice but I do suggest you have a reason for having a high balance on their cards and others, they asked me both times why I had such high balances on my cards. I got all my paid down now except for promotional no interest cards.  Probably at 20% UTIL. Good Luck!

I'll have my husband call tomorrow, he had already left for work when I checked the account. His other accounts had no balances, his total utilization was just on that card and was under 50% of the credit limit. The only other account with a balance was his charge card that gets paid in full every month. I think it was just shifty business practices that include tricking people into going overlimit and then increasing the interest rate. I highly doubt we'll ever put much on that card again, just not trustworthy. A decent lender would've sent notice. Eh, doesn't really matter, payments will start hitting that account pretty quick, it'll be the last time we pay interest on it, that's for sure.
