HSBC issues very useful cards like the HSBC Premier World MasterCard. JCB isn't really useless, it is accepted at merchants that accept Discover.

The JCB Murakai card offers 3% cashback (after reaching approx $5K spend) with no annual fee and is "accepted" in all places which takes Discover.  But, I've found this acceptance is seemless only about 90% of the time.

For cashback, 3% is the higest I've ever seen with no annual fee.

Regarding your headline question about uncommon cards in one's wallet...I have a 1st Command Bank Platinum Visa (they were very popular on forums in years past due to low interest rates), they were among the first of my more prime cards and have been generous with their CLI for a regional bank.  I also have an IberiaBank Select Visa, another low interest card that's good for BT but their underwriting to get the card can be difficult.  I guess the Merrill Lynch cards could also be considered uncommon.  JP Morgan Select is also not very common.  I tend to like the quirky cards with interesting benefits!  Smiley Happy

And as you can see in my signature, I also have a Unicorn and a Phantom ! !
