Sportsman's Guide?

Since I select my cards entirely based on looks... (bwahahahaha)

If I had been a little better edumachated, I would have done the SG SP (shopping cart trick) first before the other retail cards & the other several HPs on my credit. I'm pretty sure that, plus the fact that my CCs are all new (within 2 weeks) is why I got not a peep from SG.

So planning ahead, I'm now in the garden waiting for the HPs to age, and my new almost $9k in TL to report and show a beautiful util. Goal is not to carry a balance on any more than 2 cards at a time while I'm making an initial purchase on each of the retail cards (the 2 jewelry cards are frightening and exciting all at once! Immagine the bling!) I'm also planning to try for some CLIs in the next 3-6 months depending on the card.

Later, at least 6 months to a year from now, I'll go for one or two "real" cards and/or try to unsecure the secured ones. But I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on the SG shopping cart trick? I'll keep trying every month or so, but how long do you think it might try to produce? I love that this card gives a decent limit with a SP. When will my 10 or so HPs matter little enough that I might get the offer? Anyone else have experience related?

My Wallet:Fidelity Amex $1K, DCU $3.9K, US Bank AeroMexico $300, Quicksilver $1.3K, Cap1 secured MC $750, DiscoverIT $200, Care Credit $5K, Sportsman Guide Visa $3K, Kay $3K, Jared $3K,American Airlines CC $3K, Amazon $2.9k, Walmart $2.2k, Macy's $800 revolving/$5k furniture, Comenity retail cards $5.55kStarting Score: 618Current Score: 711

IIRC, the scores are around 700 for the SG Visa

+1 to this.

I'm interested in this when I qualify.  It'd be a nice replacement for that awful Credit One card of mine.

Re: Sportsman's Guide?

I was offered this card via sp when my scores were mid-high 600's across the board. I had high utility on many cards too. Tons of inquiries but my credit history had been established for years. The downside was the 2K limit (compared to other cards I had).

After working on my credit picture for a few months, I have cards with much higher limits and lower interest rates.

If any of that matters to you, waiting a little longer may work out better. I find that the SP approvals can be all over the board. Anyhow, keep trying and in general, the inquiries should have less of an impact after 6 mos and not really affect you after 1yr.

Re: Sportsman's Guide?

Good to know. I think this can be a good thing. But if I wait until the 700s, I have a better chance of starting with a good CL.

I'm pretty sure people getting that card are starting out with pretty plump limits.
