So I was thinking of getting a discover but last year when I applied for the student It card they said my loans were too high or something of those lines. Thing is my loans aren't due but I was thinking about making payments early. Will this help my approval rate? If so how many months should I wait or payments before applying?
Do you have any other tradelines besides your student loans?
yeah i have some CC's but was just wondering
I don't think there is a distinction between student and regular cards absent the credit limit cap on student cards. I'm leaning towards you receiving inaccurate information from the CSR you spoke with. On the other hand, perhaps your debt to income ratio was too high. I don't presume that paying off your loans early will help your approval chances. For what it is worth, I have $75-80k in student loans, about half of that is my current income and was able to get all of the cards in my siggy.
I never spoke too csr this was from the letter I got when I applied last year. But I thought the discover it student card was easier to get because of the loans.
