We were wondering today at Target if we could still get the 5% off through our red card but use the Target gift cards that we got for Christmas to pay for our purchase. The cashier said it didn't work but I don't trust her. What do the experts say?
the discount is automatic with the CC use. I am sure the GC does not trigger it.
the cashiers do not initiate the discount.
You can try to mix pay some of the balance with the CC.
We wanted to apply the Recard discount but then pay 100% with the gift card.
The cashier said that if we do mixpay, we will only get 5% on the part that we actually charge to the Redcard.
well you have your answer

That's what I am wondering. The cashier wasn't especially CC savvy and appeared rather clueless. Her answer was more of a speculation. I didn't bother to dig deeper. Maybe she was correct. But maybe people on here know more. We ended up not swiping our Redcard, so I don't know what would have happened.
I am one hundrede percent sure that is you swiped your redcards and then voided them the discount would void as well.
I am not so sure that if you swiped them on partial they would not apply the 5% to the total of the bill.
You only get the 5% on the portion of the charge you put on the card.

Ithought you once got 10% off by splitting it on 2 cards, I am confused
