Hopefully I was not phished.
I signed up saturday with no problems.
I finally received the activation code and created my account with ProtectMyID.com. Target is doing the right thing.
I also have Equifax 3-in-1 mornitoring service. I am going to compare the two.
only have one day left. I signed up in december
They never sent me a code and Chase had to send me a new card because I went to Target several times during the data breach.
Target hack victims were directed to Experian for protection. But that company has leaked your data too.

"That data leak got plugged before Target sent victims to Experian. "
Well ... at least we can find some comfort in that.

To be honest, Most of the time it's not as dangerous as you think it is.
The people who take a big risk in stealing peoples info, Usually sell it to others. Those others, Instead of using it for whatever reason, Have learned that it's easier to trick the owner of the information to send them money themselves, Than to use your information in stores or whatever... My friend got a call about how he supposedly owed money to a cash advance place, They had all his info... SSN, Work history, Home information EVERYTHING. We tricked them into thinking we were going to give them our debit info to charge the money he "owed" them and we ended up talking smack to them and getting them mad lol.
No biggie now a days.

I am wondering if this is the reason why i have been getting scammers calling my cell phone and home phone recently. Some guys were calling me threatning me that i didn't pay my taxes and they were from the IRS and were going to send fbi after me.

This is a scam. The IRS doesn't need anybody's help to take your money, they'll just garnish & levy. Also, you would have received numerous mailing from them before that would happen.
