Another reason I am a fan of BA Avios (and I still have a buttload of them left from my Chase sign up bonus) is that they offer good redemption in Europe on BA and partner airlines.
Needed a 7am one-way flight from Lisbon to Madrid and really wanted to see what flying Iberia airlines was like. Was able to score a Business Class seat on Iberia for 6,500 Avios and $56. Full fare price was $426. That's nearly 6 cents per Avios redemption. Seat was offered for 9,000 Avios and $16 but I thought the 6,500 was a better bargain for my needs. Flight was booked via BA app.
Of course Avios are a great value when used domestically on short haul US partner flights. Defintely can put them to good use overseas as well.
