Today I took a chance and applied for a Citi Thank You card, got 6k CL.  Later on in the evening (after going to see the Avengers, great movie), I decided another hard pull and new acct would not be a bad thing while my score was over 700.  So I tried to get AMEX BCE, but the website kept freezing... so I went for a Discover card.  Got the 5 to 7 days to decide message...  tried to call the number on the website... very busy number.  Looked up the backdoor number here, called it and got to talk to a senior credit analysis and she approved me for 4k.

Increased my overall CL by almost 50% today.  Now I am definitely in gardening mode till next spring!

The point is never give up, call them, be friendly and respectful... then let everything else fall in place Smiley Happy

Re: The backdoor numbers work :)

What exactly do you even say when you call one of those numbers?

"Hello, I just applied for a _____ card with you, and received a message to wait 7-10 days.  I was wondering if you would be able to take a look for me and see about the possibility of being approved?"

I hear all these recon stories, but don't exactly know how blunt people are, haha.  How exactly did the convo go?

Re: The backdoor numbers work :)

I applied for a Priceline Visa last week, it's through Barclay's.  I got the 5-7 day message on the screen and called the number provided.  I talked to someone and was told that they could not approve me, mainly becasue my Capital One card is less than a year old.  If I called the backdoor number would I have any chance?  Or should I just move on?  I hate the fact that I used a HP and was denied.  Thoughts?  Has anyone ever called the backdoor numner to be reconned after being told no on the phone once?

Re: The backdoor numbers work :)

What do you have to lose if you recon? NOTHING. That is the beauty of it.

You already got a hard pull inquiry so asking for reconsideration will only do good.
