This is almost more excitement than I can deal with on a Monday. The categories give you 5% AND 5 point bonus per dollar?

Also, do you need CSP? Wouldn't simply CS suffice for the transfer combo and redeeming your airline points?

No. Its 5 bonus pts that you can transfer to CSP not 5 pts and 5%. The cash back is done in points.

You need to have a CSP in order to transfer to travel partners (unless you have some premium chase ink business cards). CS will not work.

I don't have an csp , but i thought people liked it more than regular CS is the higher signup bonus and better bonuses in general. I could be totally wrong about that though

If you want to transfer to travel partners then do not get the CS. It won't work. That is one of the reasons why there is no AF on the CS. The CS is not worth getting in my opinion, unless you have a CSP and want to avoid AF, but still keep a chase account.

As mentioned by another poster, no, the CS DOESN'T do the transfer to partners, so it is not a substitute if that is the reason why you want the card.

So 5% equals 5x point at the transfer? It's just that I usually think along the lines of redeeming a $1,200 overseas ticket for 60K points, while with the combo the 5x max is 30K points which I view at $600 vs the 5% cash back is $300.

With the freedom card you are given points just like with the csp. The difference is that if you do not have the csp you can't transfer the points to a travel partner. The points are the same no matter what, its just your ability to transfer them that changes with the CSP.

This is why the CSP is a good card if you use it for specific redemptions. If you use it for cash back then there are better cards out there. When used for travel partner redemption you could value 1 UR point at .02 value. This is a broad generalization and it depends on the program you are transferring into etc.

+1.  You will sometimes see much higher values quoted (10c per point for example) but these are a) for only a few redemptions and b) questionable, e.g. 100K points for a $10K ticket, but would you have ever bought that $10K ticket that you are now "saving"?

If you like Hyatt the hyatt transfer alone makes it worth it to me. You get extremly good value when using it for this.
