My utilization is about 5%.
I want to ask for a CLI on some cards. They ask on the form why I want it; is it for a balance transfer, make a purchase?
The real answer is "I just want higher limits in case I need to use a card and don't want to screw up my utilization percentage".
That isn't one of the choices. <<<evil grin>>>
What should I say I want it for??
I usually say its because another of my cards has a higher limit, and I am thinking of closing that card and keeping all my business with one card.
Lie. Say you want it for a BT... unless "other" is an option.
Tell them you want to buy a new car with it
All kidding aside put to make a purchase, just because you say it does not mean you have too

I would tell them you one THAT card to be the go to card or your main CARD and need a higher CL along with other reasons.

+2. They will be happy to hear that you will give them more business.
+3 to saying you would like to use that card as your main card.
I'd say to make a purchase if that is the only other option besides a balance transfer. I mean, you will make a purchase at some point, right? If it was me, I'd be afraid they'd ask for the balance transfer info right away so they could process it.
