I probably wouldn't unless there's an AF you aren't willing to pay or it's just too much to manage.  Have you requested a CLI on the Amazon store card or Discover?  If you decide to close the Sapphire, ask them to move the limit over to one of your other Chase cards, it's painless.  Honestly the only card that stands out is the Simplicity but that's mostly because I churn Citi cards and usually need the limit to get a new approval.

Re: Thinking of Closing some cards

I don't have a problem managing them but a few seem redundant . The Limits on the amazon store card I feel won't even get higher then 2k Lifetime and Discover Who knows lol. I already asked for CLI on both

Re: Thinking of Closing some cards

Is it time for this debate again already?!?  The pros and cons of whether or not to close I think at the end of the day boils down to personal descision.  I am in the close em camp personally.  My only credit plans for the near future are all card closures.

If I were in your boat I would be looking to close that QS1 and replacing it with Fidelity AMEX, but that's just me.  I just hate Crap1...

That being said...  Amazon Store and Saphire would seem like the obvious candidates for closure.  Maybe try those out and see how it makes you feel?

Why waste Keystrokes to Say Crap 1 and I am in that Boat ....    Sapphire I will probably be closing in 90 days when I can move all of the limit elsewhere versus leaving $500 when closing. Amazon Store card I like it because of the financing offers and the fact it is my 2nd oldest card in a very thin file.   I am usually in the Not close them and Sock Drawer boat but considering closing some. Though since you did bring it up I might just cancel it anyways long term it means nothing

As far as Cap 1  goes I like 1.5% CB ad even at $750 my plane was to just rack it up by buying Stuff at CVS with it. I would give it a year or 2 and see if it grows with me to a certain degree before I close it. I also guarantee I will be declined for that Amex card with my CR's how they are with inqs

Re: Thinking of Closing some cards

What do you use Simplicity for?  I have a hard time finding uses for Simplicity and Diamond Preffered.  I intend to PC one of them to dividend and move the line from the other one over and close it or PC the other to Thank You Preffered.  Just waiting on the intro APRs to run out on them to decide.

Also on the chopping block for me eventually are Ebates and Amazon Visa.  I thought I would use the Ebates site for shopping, but I never do and I have better cards for dining than my Amazon card and I would rather have its limit applied to Freedom.

Also MAY end up closing my credit union card.  I never use it.  I just got it for the super low APR, but with its limit so low I couldn't really carry any kind of balance on it even if I wanted to.

Re: Thinking of Closing some cards

I apped for the Citi simplicity card at the time for Util % purposes and for the intro APR%. Citi card were the first off the App spree that I did and figured if I got those 2 ( and thank you) i would be happy... Got the chase and other after the fact.   Probably PC it to the Hiltons Card since it has no AF and just rack up points with it the eventually get something with it lol or maybe their category 5% CB card

Also the amazon visa is the only card where i get 3x points on amazon purchases which i shop at 98% of the time

I know you want to close cards, but you can guess what the reaction to that will be: get a Sallie Mae and get 5%!

I'm an eBay guy.  Ha!

At first I was pretty stoked thinking it would be great around Christmas time but then I got approved for Freedom which will have Amazon at 5% for Christmas.

Don't pay any attention to me.  I just prefer to close a card rather than struggle to find a use for it or throw it in a drawer.  My AAoA is already so shot that it really has no effect when I do close.  Generally...  I have no clue what I'm talking about anyway!  I'm just here for the free coffee!!  Smiley Very Happy
