I live abroad, so I'm SOL on a gas card, but would love a Macy's, Kohls or Cabelas for online purchases...gonna wait until I am tapped out with NFCU though.  Maybe the first of the year.

FYI, Macy's accepts APO/FPO for billing address now.  The next time you are stateside consider applying  in the store.  Just remember to bring your state DL (or military ID) and a debit or credit card.

Re: Time for Credit hunting

I am scheduled to close on my house tomorrow. Can I go credit shopping today? I don't need credit but my credit file is thin and I want to add a mix of credit like a charge card and a better CC.

Sorry, I think my heart stopped there for a moment. Don't rock the boat now! Let it fund and get the ink on the documents dry.

Anything you want to apply for will still be there tomorrow evening. You can do your research today, but no app'ing until you walk out of the title company office, or wherever you're closing.

Sorry!! I wouldn't want to cause anyone a heart attack!  but...but...I got a nice 15% discount card from Kohls yesterday and I've been wanting to apply for CC from my CU for quite sometime.

Thanks for the advice...and patience is a virtue...but it's running out... Smiley Happy

Re: Time for Credit hunting

Your mortgage provider can pull a credit report the day of the closing. Fewest changes possible until the ink is dry is the order of the day.

Re: Time for Credit hunting

I have signed all the documents yesterday and I think the ink has dried by now. Smiley Happy

My goal is to be approved for a prime CC and use it as my primary. I'll be happy with just a $1000.00 limit. What are my chances of approval with the fico scores I have in my signature? My credit file is thin and this is what I have:

Open accounts:

Auto - $1500.00 balance left (no lates)

Credit card - $400 CL with $22.00 balance

Closed/Negative account:

Auto repo from 2003

Auto - closed since 2006 (no lates)

Inquiries:

EX - 7 (2 from LO in June)

EQ - 6 (2 from LO in June)

TU - 2 (2 from LO in June)

AAOA is about 3.5 years and no lates or deliquencies for  5+ years.

Thanks!

Re: Time for Credit hunting

Oh I did try to apply for the Citi platinum card last night. I called their number today and was told I was declined due to EQ credit score and a deliquency (auto repo i presume). I ask for a recon and she asked if I have checkings/savings/investment or retirement account. I said yes to all. She said I should hear something back in a couple of days.

Re: Time for Credit hunting

You have a thin credit file plus a baddie. I would wait for the bad to fall off (7.5 years from DOFD, an EX report may provide an exact date). That could be pretty soon since the repo was in 2003. I am afraid if you don't the Citi experience will be dup'ed with other banks. Alternative is to develop a relationship with a CU of your choice. They tend to be more forgiving.
