Re: To those thinking of applying for Amex Delta Gold

BTW, I remember why I've always been against applying for Delta Amex - as far as I remember, Delta Amex, similar to all other Amex cards except for top-notch ones (like Platinum), has an absolutely outrageous foreign transaction fee (I remember it was around 2.7%, but I can look in my statement as I paid in Spain once with my Amex BCE, because that particular store didn't accept Diners/Discover). OK, I could've lived with that if only... Delta didn't charge ALL flights originating outside the US in their local currency or EUR...

So if I buy Delta round-trip ticket, let's say, Venice - NYC - Venice (or Moscow - NYC - Moscow as I do all the time) or even one-way London - Atlanta, I'll be charged in EUR and after getting 2% cashback for Delta purchase, I'll be penalized with almost 3% conversion fee, so I'll end up with even losing 1% instead of making 2%...

Obviously if you plan to fly only domestically or at least only with RT flights originating in the US that should not be an issue, but overall I see it as a huge disadvantage of this card. At the same time, you can usually buy the same ticket on expedia.com and be charged in USD ... and still get 1% cashback NOT on Delta purchase...

Try to figure, what they were thinking about when designing this structure...

In my wallet now: Amex PRG NPSL, Amex BCE $6k, CSP $6k, Chase United ME $5k, Citi Dividend $4.5k, Discover It $4k and a handful of other cards...
