First of all, the benefits of the card aren't all clear. It may be missing some perks that the Discover More offers.

Secondly, the It doesn't have a card builder function while the More still does. You can select your introductory benefits for the More through the following link:

https://www.discovercard.com/cardmembersvcs/acqs/app/chooseMyOffer/cardMatch?fmoUpdatedValidationPar...

Thirdly, you can easily switch from the More to the It if the latter proves superior with time.

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Lordy, when I read this I just dropped the hammer and app'd.  Got the dreaded 5-7 day message yet they asked me if I wanted to set up my online access, which I did.  But why would it ask me to set up online access if I'm not approved?  It also says something about in order to expedite the process to call a number to speak with a specialist.  They pulled EQ and my score has dropped a bit to 704 from all the apps and approvals.

Oh well it was too late to call as they closed at midnight.  If they approve me I tell you what, you can just blow me over with a feather.  I've had a darn good streak the last few months with ALL approvals for everything that I app'd for.  I will stay optimistic on this app but this is the first time that I am feeling not so confident about an approval.

The same thing happened to me when I app'd for my More card a few months ago. They asked me to setup online access yada yada and to call to expedite. The call was just to verify my info and I was approved right then. Sounds like the same is about to happen for you. This is a good sign.

I had the exact same experience. Very positive Rhaeny was approved. Robot Very Happy

Okay I was approved!!!  It wasn't for the most favorable limit and terms but I got it.

The guy I talked was super nice and he asked me why I was interested in the card.  I told him all of the standard I've read awesome reviews and the cash back option is very attractive, yada yada yada.  The next thing he asked about was my bk and when was it filed.  I told him March 2007 and he said okay let me back that out right now.  Then he said "Okay good deleted that????".  I'm thinking huh?  I didn't want to talk about that further so I just kept quiet.  But what the hell does that mean?  Anyway, then he said that they were not able to offer me the original T&C's that I applied for.

The terms and condtions are for the 1st 6 months the interest rate is 3.99% (includes BT) and then afterwards it is 22.99%.  Now the limit he could offer me is only $1K Smiley Sad.  I then asked if he could reconsider this and at least match my lowest major CC which is $2K.  And he said no that he was only able to offer the $1K but just wait 6 months and they will review.  He was so nice the way he said it.  He knows how to let a girl down and still make her feel good...LOL!  Oh and one other thing he did, he said that I applied for the Open Road card he suggested that I switch over to the IT.  I said okay so now I will get IT Smiley Very Happy.

So do you think I should call the backdoor or just let dead dogs lay?  I have opened so many cards since Sept that I really think I should close some of them.  Right now I have 5 inq on EX, 6 on EQ and 10 on TU.  Some of those were for an auto, but I have 12 new accounts in 4 months so 2013 will be the "I ain't applying for $h!T" year.  What do you guys think, call the backdoor or no?  Close some accounts or no?

Congratulations!!! Didn't know you were a girl. Cat Wink

What were you going to call the back door number for? I don't think Discover would give you a higher limit; they are very conservative about credit limits in general. However, giving it a try costs you nothing... But honestly I would keep your expectations not too high.

In terms of maintaining accounts, in general, it's never a good idea to close a card that doesn't carry an annual fee. Let your accounts age a little, and once your baddie falls off you'll be in the high 700's range for FICO scores, easily. 12 new accounts is a lot, but not too much of an anomaly; many people have done way more. So don't worry about this and focus on maintaining your current accounts well! Congrats again!

Same exact terms I got. I got declined for a 6 month CLI, any time I want one now they want a HP. Card is in the sock drawer.

Yea I am a girl....a fully grown woman Woman Wink

So I called back and I talked to several different people.  They all seem confused but all say that if I am supposed to get the sign up bonus and I switched the card that the switch doesn't matter and I should be still be entitled.  I just can't get anyone to confirm that it's on my account.  Can you check your link that you originally posted because I don't get anything from that link.  As a matter of fact the original representative that the card that I applied for was the open road (whatever that is) and he switched to the IT.

Re: To those thinking of applying for Discover It

When using the card builder function and selecting the More or the Open Road, you can customize the welcome bonus. Pull the rightmost slide to the very top, and you'll see the $200 welcome bonus offer. If you don't adjust the rightmost slide, by default you get $0 welcome bonus but better introdutory rates.

Ughhhh!!! I have moved those bars everywhere but sideways and I can't get the welcome bonus to show anything but $0.

Re: To those thinking of applying for Discover It

Here's what I did:

To the 3 questions, I answered that I have excellent credit, I plan to always pay off my balance each month, and See all available offers.

In the next screen, I choose 2% cash back bonus; the screen shows me the Open Road.

I move the Welcome Bonus bar all the way to the top; the box now shows $200 as in the screenshot:

Okay, called back and was told because they could not offer me the original T&C's and had to offer me an alternative that I won't get the bonus.  Anytime there is an alternative offer then basically all bets are off on the options I chose is what I'm gathering.  I also asked again about the paultry limit of $1K and he as he looked at my application, he said well the deal is that I see all of your other credit cards and you look like a good customer so we didn't want to outright deny you.  So in this case is why we made an alternative offer to still try to win your business.  We want to see how well you pay your bills and will evaluate after 6 months.

So that's where I am.  No bonus, no high limit......but at least I'm in with a prime card so I'll take this too Woman Happy.

Just wanted to comment on this as I think it is too strongly worded.    If you don't have balances on the cards you want to close, and have several other cards and  you have "enough" credit on your other cards, closing them is fine.  Closing doesn't impact AAoA for up to 10 years so it's just utilization to be concerned about.

There are several reasons why you might want to close an unused card.

1) The top one, already covered by HiLine is AF.  Obvious targets to close

2) Too much work to keep track.  Have to worry about fraud, getting lost/stolen, issuer adding annual fee etc

3) Issuer caps.   Want Card X from issuer, but that issuer has a limit (# of cards or CL) that you already meet, so you cannot get it.  Depending on the circumstances, you can sometimes PC or move CLs around without needing to close

4) Churning for rewards.  See Flyertalk.  For this group, once scores are high enough and account age is great, closing and old card and later applying for new (sometimes exactly the same one) cards doesn't significantly impact anything.

Well put, bs6054. I'm glad you didn't just simply say "closing a credit card does not affect your AAofA".

Well I should have clarified that the cards I was considering closing were a combination of (1) some extremely low limit cards that have not grown at all and (2) a bottom feeder sub-prime card.  My AAoA is not much of a concern because it is close to 7 years.

The Avenue$150
Catherines$300
Creditone$500
Victoria Secret$750
Woman Within$750
Genisys Visa (Elan)$900
Walmart$1,000
Discover $1,000
Amazon Store$1,200
Macy's$1,300
JCP $1,500
Barclays$2,000
NFCU$5,000
DCU$7,500

The first 3 cards I was considering to close and they are 6 months old.  I can't get an increase to at all on these cards.  All of the rest were opened between Sept and Dec.  So when I looked at this on a piece of paper I couldn't believe that I had opened this many cards and was just concerned about AA.  Especially that Barclays card, however I didn't know about thier antics until I after the damage was done opening more accounts.  Most of these I PIF, however with Xmas I have increased my util to 14%.  I dunno, the CreditOne will definitely be closed when the year is up but that $150 and $300 limit cards just don't go with my current limits...LOL!
