Transferring credit limits between Chase cards?

I have had a Chase Freedom card for a few years, it has a $2,000 limit. At the time I , I didn't have any cards with higher limits (now I do).

Today, I applied and was approved for a Chase Slate card with a better interest rate than the Freedom, but only a $2,500 limit. They said if that didn't work, to talk to the customer service rep when I activate the card. Any benefit to calling now vs. waiting to ask when I get the card?

I'll see if they can just increase the Slate limit first, but if that doesn't work, I want to see if they'll just close the Freedom card and add the $2,000 limit from Freedom to the Slate card (for a $4,500 limit). Will they do that? What about keep $1,000 on Freedom but move $1,000 to Slate? I have a balance to transfer that I'm trying to pay off and want to take advantage of the Slate 0% intro terms.

Current Cards: Banana Republic Visa ($5,300), Chase Freedom ($2,000), Discover It ($11,500), Amex Costco True Earnings ($5,000), Chase Slate ($2,500)

They will do that if you want them to. They can also move just 1.5k and keep the freedom open at $500 if you'd like, as well.

They are stingy with CLIs in my opinion. I've always seen larger CLs with new applications with them. Especially Marriott/Ritz/CSP (I don't have Ritz/Marriott just for the record. lol)

Re: Transferring credit limits between Chase cards?

awesome, thanks for responding! I'll probably reduce Freedom to $1,000 and ask them to move $1,000 to Slate.

Any other advice? Is Chase pretty stingy with credit limits?

Do you have a balance on your other credit cards? If so, inform them that you would like to do a balance transfer, but because of the low credit limit, you are unable to.

You can call right now and tell them that this limit isn't suffice.

As for moving credit limits around, Chase is very happy to do so. It was quick and painless for me.

Congrats on the approval.

And while I haven't tried to get a CLI with Chase yet, based on what I've read, it's most likely another HP. So keep this in mind.

12/19/19 06/11/20 07/02/20
Total CL: $708,900. Largest CL: Amex Bonvoy Brilliant $70K. Apple Card $40K. Chase Ritz Carlton $35K. Mouseover for individual CLs

Yeah, I have a balance > $2500 that I want to transfer, which is why I opened the Slate in the first place. I'll try that first, and then if it doesn't work I"ll ask them to move credit from Freedom to Slate. Thanks everyone!
