Ugh I was looking forward to applying for this next month and having my first AMEX card. I noticed Costco in Canada is accepting it through the end of this year, so if Costco here in the states drops AMEX, hopefully they will still accept it for at least 6 months? Hmm...at the very least, would AMEX still allow use for this card elsewhere? Would they backdate for a new card if this is my first AMEX? Not sure if I should follow my original plan of getting this next month when the co-branded relationship is in the air.

If this is your first AMEX and it is their best product to meet your needs, I say get it next month!
Much is still unknown. AMEX could still win the bid. If not, I suspect that AMEX would retain the portfolio and simply PC the cardholders to either an existing product or a new product.
