the slate is pointless for him since it's only a BT card, I would have chase move the CL from the Slate to the Freedom and close the slate.

maybe while he just did this mini spree grabbing the new Citi Double Cash would be good and also an American Express to secure is member date of 2014, something like the Everyday that is AF Free!

Thanks for the advice, I am just trying to guide him with the best possible advice as I don't want him to mess up what he has done thus far.

I agree with @creditaddict let him get the most reward by consolidating line to freedom. You are a good mother for educating him.
