I honestly think the US Bank Cash+ card is great for most people/families/households. I'm just not among the "normal" spend patterns for anyone so I'm an outlier. I wish they had a referral commission on that card because according to my analysis this card would be a slam dunk for most. In fact, I can see two spouses each having the card with 4 different common 5% categories and making an extra $800 a year or whatever the max rewards would be on two cards!
For us, the more useful 5% categories went away, we were indeed maxing out the rewards on two cards, $100 per quarter each. Now our spend is about less than $250 a month between them both, so not very exciting. But maybe we're outliers and most people would find 4 useful categories and max them out. (That's still only $480 more than the same spend on a 2% card though!)
