US Bank Preapproval - nore contour.

So US Bank used to come back with the contour card every time I checked for preapprovals. Then they started showing a 1% cash something-or-other for a couple months.

As of today they are showing the 1% AND the REI MasterCard. However, the APRs are ranges, so I'm not apping.

Has anyone gotten a solid, single APR on their prequal, or is it always "floaty?"

I don't have a use for the 1% card, but could definitely make use of the REI card.

Thanks,
Gib

Re: US Bank Preapproval - nore contour.

We have a torrid relationship.  Only bank I will not seek credit from.

If there's a red bar above the card, you're golden.

If you have a relationship with them, you have a better shot. Keyword BETTER not guaranteed.

I used to be pre-selectec for the flex perks with a solid apr (16.99%) and the contour debit card, but never respond the offer, few weeks ago I don't get anything , I don't know why, nothing has changed on my credit report

Re: US Bank Preapproval - nore contour.

US Bank pre approvals are generally unreliable. Years ago I was only pre approved for the Contour but they ended up approving me for a Cash+ and eventually two others. It really depends more on what your reports look like. If it's your first app it will almost always be manually reviewed. And even then, the automated system is never in line with what the actual decision is.

Re: US Bank Preapproval - nore contour.

I used to only get the Contour offer also, for about two weeks now they have been telling me my recommended offers are Perks + and Cash +.  I just checked again for the 'Red Bar' and while it is not there now they are also adding the Cash Rewards card as an option.  I think I will wait for the 'Red Bar' or an APR which is set.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.

Re: US Bank Preapproval - nore contour.

Thanks everyone!

I'm going to leave it alone for now and see what happens. I have no red bar, and no set APR, and then there's the threat of manual review - I have 26 new accounts this year, so yeah... probably not going to happen.
