Hi all,
I opened up a Macy's Store Card about several months ago with the hope of qualifying for the AmEx version. I didn't qualify (with 40k income, and some high balances on some cards).
At this point, my credit has gone up slightly, at least on the EX side to the point that I believe I should qualify. I have kept $0 in debt as well since Dec '13.
So I went ahead and called them up to see about getting the card upgraded to an AmEx, and I was given the 4-6 week decision spiel. On top of that, the CSR was also pretty surly - a huge turnoff. I don't think I'm going to get the upgrade, and haven't seen anything change on my online account status on Macy's side.
My limit right now is only $300 - nothing compared to my other limits. I'm considering dumping the card. Or is my approach skewed?
Thanks for any advise you guys have. I've been lurking on these forums for over a year now, and owe a lot of the improvement of my credit to this forum.
you seem to have som variance with your scores: 713 [EX] 761 [TU] 690 [EQ]
you also, just opened that Macy's... i'd probably wait a year for their Amex, but it's till at 24.50% gl
No worries my mom AND dad who have has their cards for 4-5years just got declined a upgrade with Cls of $4000 and $1,800 awating for the letter to get a full picture of denials forsure they are going to see the High utl and inquries and if that the case maybe a re-try in a year or so. Funny thing is that no HP has been seen from the upgrade.
They gave me the Amex after a year, but not automatically and it was instant and no HP. Scores under 700 warrant a HP and subsequent decline. ymmv
My upgrade required no .hP and very little usage. Had the card for 7 months with a small CL of $2000. Like others have noted the APR is a big turn off for me so it continues to get little usage.
I do believe that CS is important to them as mine was +740 when the upgrade was approved.
My wife has had the Macys card for years now. Occasional usage for sales. Recently spent about $600. I decided to try for the Amex version as long as no HP.
After chatting with the CSR, she said she would need to forward the request to some special department. I had her make it clear that no hard pull was authorized.
Within a couple days, the website showed the Amex branding on the card. We got the replacement Amex version today (crappy red card, I wanted the black they don't have anymore).
Surpringly, they only sent her the Amex. My AU card never came. Not a big deal, but weird.
