There are posts on flyertalk.com specific to each airline that will tell you everything you need to know. Google "amex travel credit delta" or whatever domestic airline you prefer.
I just got reimbursed for two $50 Delta eGift certs to complete my travel credit for this year. Will do the same in January. I probably won't actually use them for another year at least, but I at least got the money.
