Using new card to rebuild

I used the shopping cart trick and just received my brand spankin' new express card. I want to use it to build up my score. My question is, how?

Let's say I make a small purchase. I know that they report to credit bureaus on the X day each month. When should I pay? Before that date, so it shows paid in full, or after that date, so it shows a small balance?

Re: Using new card to rebuild

If you want your util to be low, pay before the statement cuts and keep the reported balance less than 10%.
