Since your question didn't post, you can open your original post, click "Options" at the top right, and select "edit message" from the drop-down box. You can then go ahead, enter your message, click Preview Post at the bottom to check it over, and then hit Submit Post.
I can't guess how many blank posts I've started! I keep typing in the thread title and hitting "enter" and whoosh, off it goes. I finally learned to type my message first and then put on the title. More focused people can type the title, move the cursor to the text field, and keep going. I think that the tab key works as well.
