WHY is Barclay SO anal about matching other lines??

My best has the BARCLAY Cash Forward approved at 10k and reconned to 13k on arrival (lol) -- the analyst would only do up to 13k since that is his highest line reporting. When I had the apple VISA moons ago I recall the same line of crapola. What is with this ? Why do they care that they are "currently your highest line" or if other cards match theirs ? Other banks seem to jump at the chance to go over your current highest line. Any Ideas ??l

It's dependent of your credit profile ... not some broad Barclay's policy.  When I started my build, Barclays gave me a $5K SL when I only had one other cc, and it had a $350 limit.

Because that's what their policy is.

If you want something different then go with another lender.  Some sing praises about Barclay's and other despise them.  They don't really bring anything special to the table in most cases though.

Is that their policy? I do agree they bring nothing special to the table, but I would be interested to know if that was truly the policy or not!

Re: WHY is Barclay SO anal about matching other lines??

No one can say it for fact because they'll fire someone for that but, looking around here and the stories over the years have proven such.  They're not Cap1 where they'll be the first to offer you 30K approvals when everyone else has you in the 10K territory.  They rarely go above the highest limit reported on your CR from the threads I've seen over the years.  It's a simple benchmark for them to hit and they figure why the hell not since everyone else has you at X limit we can go there and be safe to play too.

Taking into account the unscrupulous practices they engage in it's surprising that they're...well no, they're a bank... they can do anything they want.  All I have to say is search "barclays + fines".

I'm crossing my fingers that this doesn't become a problem for me. So far, they have always given my CLIs that were higher than my other cards. Even my initial SL was higher than anything else I had at the time.
