Hi everyone! So I have a current GE Luxury Card with a $1200/$1500 balance and I KNOW its high utlization. Now, would it help my score MORE if I paid down the balance (it is interest free unti May 2013) or would I have the chance to getting approved for a Walmart/Target CC, and what would help my score more?
Thanks in advance.
You should definitely pay down your balance before apping for another card. High utilization is a red flag for lenders. Once you get it paid down, I would recommend the Walmart card. If you sign up for online statements, you get a free TU08 FICO score every month, plus you can ask for CLIs every four months without a hard pull. The Target card is good for the 5% discount at Target, but the CL doesn't grow.
Is it true they only pull TU?

The pulled TU for me in Ky but only gave me a $600 limit
What were your scores like at the time? I wouldn't be worried about a lower CL with their CLI tendencies

Even if I have several different lines open with $0 balances? All together my utlization is really low.
i was at practically 90 percent utilization with a charge off and a paid judgment on my report with multiple lates and i was approved for 600 about two weeks ago. their fico score for me was 635.
Hmmm. Did you apply online or instore? And did you get the Discover or the store card?

sorry, im not sure if u are asking me, but i applied online. i only got the store card, but its okay since i shop a ton at walmart. i applied last year and was denied, only difference now is that i have 4 accounts i opened since the denial. same utilization, same paid judgment, same charge off. i was shocked they instantly approved me.
