Walmart CC?

Hi everyone!  So I have a current GE Luxury Card with a $1200/$1500 balance and I KNOW its high utlization.  Now, would it help my score MORE if I paid down the balance (it is interest free unti May 2013) or would I have the chance to getting approved for a Walmart/Target CC, and what would help my score more?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Walmart CC?

You should definitely pay down your balance before apping for another card.  High utilization is a red flag for lenders.  Once you get it paid down, I would recommend the Walmart card.  If you sign up for online statements, you get a free TU08 FICO score every month, plus you can ask for CLIs every four months without a hard pull.  The Target card is good for the 5% discount at Target, but the CL doesn't grow.

Starting Score: TU: 566
Current Score: TU: 741 (Discover FICO); EQ: 755 (MyFico) EX: 774 (FAKO)
Goal Score: 800

What were your scores like at the time?  I wouldn't be worried about a lower CL with their CLI tendencies

Re: Walmart CC?

Even if I have several different lines open with $0 balances?  All together my utlization is really low.

sorry, im not sure if u are asking me, but i applied online. i only got the store card, but its okay since i shop a ton at walmart. i applied last year and was denied, only difference now is that i have 4 accounts i opened since the denial. same utilization, same paid judgment, same charge off. i was shocked they instantly approved me.
