Walmart - to app or not (suggestions for other cards welcome)

TU fico on here is 613.   (EQ is 601)

I have 5 CAs, 3 of which are paid.

Installment loans are all student loans in deferrment, 3 have 2 late payments almost 2yrs old.

No open CCs

2 HSBC chargoffs from 2008

NO inquiries

Do I stand a chance?

Re: Walmart - to app or not (suggestions for other cards welcome)

I app'd for Walmart card back in June with no revolving  accounts only an installment loan in good standing and was shot down. Try Cap1. They might do a starter card with low CL.

Definitely borderline.... Start with C1 as suggested above, or a secured card. I think you have a much better chance if your TU is >620

Re: Walmart - to app or not (suggestions for other cards welcome)

Yeah.... forgot to mention secured. That's exactly what I did after getting shot down by Wally. I put $1K in a BOA acct to get a secured card with same CL. It won't take long if you use the card wisely. 6 months and you should see a noticeable jump. I did.

Re: Walmart - to app or not (suggestions for other cards welcome)

It's borderline.  I was at 638 for TU98 on here and got $600 limit.  I had three open CC's at the time. I like the secured idea, maybe BOA or USBank or a local CU, wait 60 days even and I think your score will probably rebound by then.  Especially given the movement you've had recently.

  • Current: EQ FICO 706, TU FICO 701, EX FICO 706 | Starting Score: 525 (05/2012)
  • Starting total revolving credit: $1100 | Current total revolving credit: $36,700
  • Inquiries (12 Months): EQ 2 TU 1 EX 1 | Most Recent: 1/21/2014
Chase Freedom $9500
DCU Visa $10000
Capital One QS $2000
AMEX BCE $3000
Lowe's CC $8500
WalMart CC $3100
BOA Platinum $600
AMEX Gold NPSL

Re: Walmart - to app or not (suggestions for other cards welcome)

Thanks everyone, I will talk with my CU and see what they offer.  I know the one I am a member of does not have secured cards, but it's a small branch where even the manager knows your name so maybe they have some magic they can work.   If not, I'll check out Cap1 ...
