Was I wrong not to take preapproved offer?

Apped for citi simplicity. Denied.

Was pre-approved for Citi Diamond Preferred beforehand.

Passed on offer for CS.

Offer still stands. Now what?

IMO you were not wrong, if the card doesnt fit into your spending patterns then there is no reason to obtain it, a pre app offer doesnt guarantee approval though, if anything changes from the time the offer was made they have the right to deny the app.

Call recon and ask what's wrong.

Use the backdoor / recon numbers thread; if something isn't there, let's get it entered rather than for-profit-blog sharing.  --Revelate, myFICO moderator

Re: Was I wrong not to take preapproved offer?

you should look at the date on the Diamond offer. It mightve timed out with the RSVP.  Regardless of having received the Diamond offer, there's no guarantee of approval and if your credit file changed in the meantime, it could have a negative effect on the whole process.  That being said, I think if you were 'approved' for Diamond, Simplicity should've been a no brainer. Especially because Simplicity is a points card with a higher base APR than Diamond (diamonds rewards are kinda stupid for my purposes, though I have the card...)  I would recon.

Citi reconsideration is iffy at best, but for the best chance you need to contact their EO. Theyre friendly people.
