Weird email from Cap 1

I just received an email from Capital One saying that I could be eligible for a $3000 CLI because I've managed my account so well. Under normal circumstances, I'd being jumping for joy but this just made me wonder if we were looking at the same account because my overall utility is around 98%.

I have two cards with them around two years old, a Platinum with a $300 limit that was auto CLI'd to $500 some time last year that used to be orchard bank and the card in question that was originally a credit steps Platinum that started out at $500 but went to $3500 when they gave me a CLI and was later PC to a venture one. A year ago my account with them was great, paying in full, but I've been out of work for a year. During that time, I went through my savings, unemployment benefits, and finally have been living off of my cards, the bank of mom, and a part time job while my son was in school.

I have until July 10th to respond to see if I'm actually eligible. The kicker is that I finally found a new job that starts August 11 where I will be making $50,000. I had originally planned on trying to pay down some of the balance once I had worked for awhile so that my util would improve and I could have a chance of getting a new card that I could do a balance transfer. Obviously if they increased my limit, it would help me be able to get a new card sooner, but I'm really hesitant about going for it with my current lack of income and high util.

Re: Weird email from Cap 1

Did you just max it out? cap One tends to base their decisions on their last soft pull, which could be 3-4 months old. It's a SP either way so there's really nothing to lose on your part. Either way I definitely think you have a good plan in getting that balance down. That could cause them to reverse their decision.

Good luck!

I agree. Why not?  I would not open another card without an income right now though.
