.. and I found out I have no annual fee on it.
Now, I have no idea how that's possible, since I could have sworn I was supposed to have a fee after the first year. But the 'senior account specialist' even went through all the paperwork to confirm it, and showed that I permanently have no AF on the card. I had her check several times, and she said there's no annual or monthly fees of any sorts. She said that most likely my initial offer (which I replied to a mail offer) had me at a permanent $0 AF. No idea, I threw those papers away a year ago.
So I guess the card won't get getting closed after all, I'll just SD it.
Who knew? I was convinced I was going to close it, but no AF means it can just sit SDed until I get a CLI or upgrade to something better.

Yeah, I agree ~ might as well leave it open, at least it has no FTF so you can save a few bucks if you are buying stuff internationally.
That's what she was saying too, she said if I travel overseas to just use the card since it has a low CL (so less money that could get charged fraudulently) and no FTF.
I was 100% convinced I was going to close it, but no AF means it can just sit around forever.

Yep, tru dat.
And who knows maybe you will will the Cap1 CLI lottery someday and get bumped to $1000.
Yeah, who knows. I don't use the card so I really don't see them wanting to give me a CLI. After asking me some questions about my card usage, the rep said I'd be better off with a Venture anyway. She did claim (claim being the keyword) that Cap One does offer occasional PCs, but just like everything else, you have to have an offer available to you. Which means you have to get lucky with their computer wanting to give it to you.

Yeah I wouldn't expect much from their "occasional" offers; CLIs and PCs with cap1 are pretty much like a lottery, long odds....
Which is why I went to close it. No rewards, no guarantee of ever getting a CLI, and getting a PC is like winning the lottery. And since I thought I had an AF, I decided I was done.
Sounds like you got lucky.
They had an "offer" for me to "apply" for the Venture card, when I called a month or so ago. But their "offer" meant 3 HPs and no guarantee of approval. That doesn't fit my definition of an offer.
You've been lucky with your NFCU and Amex, so maybe Cap One will turn out for you, too.

I still think I shoulda just closed the account, but her pointing out that I had no AF stunned me. I thought all the rebuilder cards had some kind of membership fees involved, but apparently not. She did make it pretty clear that they really have no control over anything, though - it's all just "offers" that might happen once in a great while.
