Is love to get that jcb card. I need to establish residency in Hawaii!

No, you really don't want the JCB card. Its not really 3% cash back. Not unless you spend about $5000 a year on that card.

It's 3% after the first $3000 per year, which really isn't a high barrier, and you earn an average of 1.67% on that first $3k.  So yes, I would like that card!

There really aren't that many 2+%-on-everything cards.  The Priceline Visa was a good one but that is now 1%.  If the Fidelity one doesn't work for you, maybe see which categories are the biggest and perhaps one card can give you what you need on a majority of the spending.

Isn't there a 3% card available only in some Western states

JCB Marukai.

https://www.jcbusa.com/for_consumers/speciality-cards/marukai-premium-jcb-card/

The card is accepted anywhere Discover and Unionpay are accepted.

@youngman, JCB is a very "traditional" and EXTREMELY conservative bank. With double digit inquiries on file, it's guaranteed to be a denial....

Or in the words of Suze Orman... DENIED!!  even if reconsidered...

Hah yeah.  Been thinking about what my own plan is post mortgage either landing or burning; that card is definitely tasty though may not qualify for it.  Probably should do something smart for later and just pickup an Ink Cash.

I believe the 3% cards are only offered to HI and CA residents (Marukai Premium JCB Card).

On the app form for that card, 4 states but not HI.

To Qualify:

  1. Must be U.S. citizen, permanent resident or valid visa holder
    AND
Must be a resident of the state of California, Nevada, Oregon or Washington
  2. Must be 21 years old or older

ETA: OK, there is a separate form for HI for some reason, so hey, 5 states!
