If you can get in with PSECU (Pennsylvania State Employee's Credit Union) their Visa card is very awesome. 9.9% APR and 2.9% BT's until 12/31/13.

Wow thanks for mentioning this. I found out I'm eligible for membership. I'm not sure I want a CC from them but I'll definitely consider them for an auto loan. Is this the credit union that will give you your EX Fico as a member?

I think Penfed is good. They are conservative.

I say PenFed for non military CU, great rates, one HP for membership and multiple credit products and they give nice starting CLs

Re: What are the best credit union cards?

I absolutely love NFCU! I've had their cashRewards card for years. It's 1% cashback for the first 10,000 per year and 1.5% after that. They gave me high limits with limited history, too. Every 5-6 months I'd get an auto-CLI. From personal experience, their customer service is second to none. Sadly, I'll be using my shiny new cards for most of my purchases now, but NFCU will always have a place in my heart.

Re: What are the best credit union cards?

Most CU rewards are pretty average.  Penfed as mentioned is a notable exception.

Fort Knox has a 5% gas card as well but I've heard they're difficult to get membership with now.

The rest occasionally have some perks if needed: low APR balance carrying cards, a Chip/PIN EMV Chip (SDFCU, more lenders offering these now though so not quite as useful), or some fairly excellent secured products (SDFCU again); but generally speaking, if you don't carry balances, and you don't travel internationally, and you don't need the financial hedge and/or assuming you can qualify for the mid-tier unsecured products, typically one is better off chasing cards from the national lenders.

For everything else though, CU's are pure win, but their CC's tend to be for tradeline farming unfortunately even at my 650ish FICO score.
