  1. NFCU - generous starting CL, credit products, usually a SP for CL's,  and helpful CSR's
  2. DCU- generous CL and refi products, shared branching, free EQ score
  3. Alliant- no fee CC and checking account, good banking rates

Re: What are your top 3 credit unions and why?

if you live in the right geographic area or work for the right groups (again a limited situation) but I love First Community which is based in the St Louis metro area for thier interest bearing checking superb customer service and low fees basic credit cards. And the most competitive and efficient mortgages my realtor has seen.
Pen Fed has also caught my eye as a red cross volunteer but I havent applied.

Penfed, unlike NFCU, doesn't require a military relationship, anyone can join with a 15-20 donation to one of two charities.  That said, at least one of their cards, Defender, is restricted to military.
