No Providian account ever became a Chase account. Providian was bought in whole by WaMu.

I beg to differ with your statement above.  According to this article, in 2002, Providian sold $8.2 billion of its accounts to JPMorgan Chase:

And yes, my Providian Visa (which I had opened in 1998) was among those accounts.  I recall getting a letter from Chase saying my Providian Visa would become a Chase card soon, and that's what happened in 2002.  So yeah, Providian got swallowed up by WaMu, but not before selling some accounts to Chase years beforehand.

Lucky you! WaMu is almost as bad as Providian. In fact, WaMu IS Providian!

Re: What credit cards will you NOT carry?

I Won't Carry:

WAMU x 2: jacked my interest to 23.99% (no reason given) always PIF all cards.
Target Visa: Crappy limit

The above will be closed next year, along with Capital One, Mervyns & Hooters

Which leaves me with:
Chase
3 Amex (revolvers---but I know better) BC with CL $10K (for time being)
Citi- great rate 7.9% high cl
HSBC- good rate and decent Cl $5k
Store cards-Macy's & Walmart

Chase is always in my wallet, along with my debit card. I only take out Amex when i buy concert tickets, specific grocery stores, tuition or gas.

Re: What credit cards will you NOT carry?

Carrying at the moment:

Juni-Barclays/Travelocity MC -- sees no action
Target Visa -- sees LOTS of action now that they CLI'd me to 7k (Love those coupons)
Discover More -- sees a bit of action, mostly auto-pay stuff
BofA Amex -- high util at the moment so it's dormant
DMB Discover -- sees action only so I can get to the next rewards tier before I close it
HSBC UPC MC -- sees no action/high limit emergency card
Chase Amazon Visa -- using it like crazy b/c of 90d intro bonus points
3 Store cards

Sock Drawer:
Amex DG (soon to be Options) -- CLD'd me
Cap 1 MC -- actually, this got misplaced during the move so I'm sure it's near a pair of socks somewhere
Macys -- I'm a bit grumpy about the denial for the Visa upgrade

Plan on never having:
WaMu

Great thread, btw.  You've reminded me I need to move a few cards to the SD as well as locate that Cap1 MC.  :smileyhappy:

Re: What credit cards will you NOT carry?

My cards are either in a box or my mother has them (she lives across town..so i know i will not use them)

- both cap1 cards
- Upromise Citibank
- Avenue
- Ikea
- Children's Place
- Walmart
- Orchard Bank
- Target (when I get the card)

All I carry is my Wachovia checkcard and my Paragon FCU ATM card.

By not carrying my cards I am less likely to shop (my job is directly across the street from the mall and 1 mile from a highway that has tons of strip malls.
