It amazes me that some businesses still don't accept credit cards in 2013 (almost 2014). I personally don't shop at places who won't at least take a Visa or MC since I don't carry cash. I'll be fairly likely to return if they take Amex and the product/service is good. How about you guys? What do you do if a place doesn't accept credit cards? Will you go in the first place if you know that they don't? Will you return?
Some restaurants in our area are cash only. They are low-grossing mom-and-pop type operations and are probably trying to avoid fees and some taxes as well. I will gladly suppor them though as the food is usually outstanding.
I don't like to patronize businesses that don't take CCs. Heck, anyone can get a card reader that plugs into their phone or tablet.
However if it is a place that I like or interested in trying, I'll begrudgingly take out the cash.
YeH thats their choice I just accept it and pay cash. I do, however, boycott businesses that surcharge cards.

I am willing to try out anyone that doesn't take CCs, if I end up liking what they have to offer I pay cash or write them a check.

I'd personally be willing to pay around a 1% surcharge to use my CC. Any more than that, and I won't be back. I probably would look for other options even with a 1% surcharge.
I live in ct and theres several mom and pop places that dont take cash. One is in italian ice place which I have been going to sense I was born and has been around sense the 1930s. They are only open during the summer time It makes it that much better. If your ever in ct during the summer time you should try it its called vecchittos. Then Theres one place down by the shore that literally has two bars an indoor one and outdoor one its always packed in the summer time but I refuse to go because I believe he is trying to cheat on taxes or something by not taking credit cards. Or he is just really greedy and tells people to use the atm. Idk to me thats just not good customer service. And trust me the prices are not any cheaper than a place that takes card is.

It just don't feel secure in a place that refuses to take credit cards. I thoroughly enjoy the purchase and fraud protection of a credit card such as AmEx. Ever try to get a cash refund from a store? Not easy by any means...it makes me feel like these stores know that when you have an issue and have paid with a credit card, you have the company to fight for you...getting cash back is a nightmare. I also don't buy at any store that surcharges cards.
